  • Celebrate with religious and familiar rituals
  • Important time of repentance and renewal
  • May have to buy a ticket to attend - NY $2,970

Erev Rosh Hashanah - Elul 29, Sep 9

  • Evening before, somewhat festive
  • Visit graves of Tzaddikim - Righteous, Saintly people
  • Ask Tzaddikim to interceded for us with God
  • God would have mercy on us based on merits of the people in the grave where we are standing
  • In New York grave of Rebbe in Queens, the  “Ohel”
  • If can’t make it can send a fax or email with blessing
  • Mikvah - Men - Purify before entering  High Holy Days
  • Purchase a new Knife
    • Ps 145:16 - “You Open Your Hand”
    • Final letters spell Chatach [Cut]
    • Name of Angel in charge of livelihood

  • Many Jews in exile returned to Judah
  • He encouraged cultivation of land
  • Gedalia assassinated by Ishmael who was jealous of his success - 582 BCE
  • Jews killed, no leadership, driven further into exile
